Anthony Ha of Venture Beat asks the question about GOP Chair Jeff Frederick’s tweet that Ralph Northam was getting ready to leave the Senate’s Democratic Caucus, paving the way for power sharing and making Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling the effective tie breaker.

While some GOP-oriented publications suggested that Frederick’s decision to break the news before the deal was struck doomed the attempted coup, I tend to agree with Ha that a premature announcement on Twitter would be unlikely to dissuade a committed party switcher.

Frederick, who spent much of the past few months fending off complaints about his over-the-top campaign comparison of Barack Obama to Osama Bin Laden, can’t catch a break.

What’s Virginia coming to when a man can’t smoke a cigar in a restaurant or tweet a few sentences without causing a ruckus?
