Tom Davis, who until recently was an influential Republican Congressman, is an astute commentator and political analyst, despite not having been able to succeed Senator John Warner. I think he is right that Bob McDonnell has a reasonable chance of being elected as the next Governor because during the last 40 years Virginia has been counter-cyclical, electing to the Governor’s mansion someone not of the same party as the incumbent president. Recent results in NOVA may be straws in the wind. That said, even an established trend does not constitute infallible prophecy.
