The GOP hopes to win the gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey this year, in both of which they have a fighting chance. They are very different states of course, though I thought of Woodrow Wilson, who had Old Dominon associations, becoming the Governor of the Garden State a century or so ago. There the Democratic nominee is the incumbent Governor, and the Republican primary is being contested by a hard-line conservative and a rather more moderate candidate. In Virginia the Republican McDonnell is unopposed, and the three Democratic candidates range across the ideological spectrum of the party, with none wanting to be pinned down too much for obvious reasons.
