That’s what the polls are now forecasting for the 2009 Governor’s race.

A rematch of the 2005 race for Attorney General between Creigh Deeds and Bob McDonnell.

SurveyUSA just came out with a poll that shows Deeds ahead of McAuliffe by 12, confirming the apparent trend that Public Policy Polling identified yesterday when it released numbers with Deeds leading by 14 points.

Six days ago SurveyUSA had McAuliffe leading Deeds by 6 points.

Today Deeds by 12.

An 18 point swing in six days.

If the polls are correct…

It isn’t a surge.

Call it an avalanche.

Both McAuliffe and Moran are saying the right things

-The only poll that counts is the one that occurs tomorrow.

-The ground game can make up for a lot in a low turnout election

- And go ruin the pollsters day

But it does appear that the fascinating dynamics of a three way race have turned strongly in Deeds’  favor.

24 years ago we had a smilar rematch in Virginia.

When the sitting Attorney General, Jerry Baliles, took on Wyatt Durrette, the man he had defeated for the AG job four years earlier.

Baliles is now at the Miller Center at UVA and Durrette, a frequent contributor to Virginia Tomorrow, is a director of his own law firm, Durrette, Bradshaw.

If the polls are correct…

Baliles and Durette should be getting some phone calls from reporters (and maybe even two candidates) wanting to know what a rematch is really like.
