Creigh Deedes won as many votes as the other two candidates combined. It may be that the progressive or left-of-center vote divided between McAuliffe and Moran. (Not that these were the only voters who chose them). Had one of the latter withdrawn, Deedes may have had a much closer fight. He did well in northern Virginia as well, suggesting that NOVA has its share of centrist voters.
