Norm Leahy at Tertium Quids gives Garren Shipley of the Northern Virginian Daily the kudos he deserves for breaking new ground in the “Who Killed the Rest Stops?” story.

It now appears that the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) voted on a proposal to keep the rest stops alive last month with some dollars that had been originally allocated for repaving.

The CTB was split 6 to 6 on the proposal. The tie was broken and the deciding vote cast against keeping the rest stop open by the Governor’s own Secretary of Transportation.

I find hard it to believe that this vote will not be rescinded in some way prior to the election.

Doesn’t Bob McDonnell now make the Governor Kaine’s instruction to the Secretary of Transportation an issue?

And how does Creigh Deeds say anything but “me too” when McDonnell does?

In the LG race, Bill Bolling is already making the cuts to the rest stops a signature issue against Jody Wagner.

This is looking more and more like the non-disclosure argument about the Governor’s DNC travel.

A political liability that’s impossible to defend over the long haul.
