In the playbook, it known as a WAKE-UP CALL:

An early poll that should compel you to think about what in the world you’re doing

The entire Democratic ticket is behind by double digits in the latest SURVEY USA poll.

That’s right. Double digits. The entire ticket.

McDonnell-Deeds   55-40

Bolling-Wagner       54-42

Cuccinelli- Shannon  53-42

Maybe, perhaps, just possibly…

The Democrats will start to understand that running simply as

Legacies

The heirs to the Warner-Kaine tradition

Has minimal resonance in the economic climate Virginians face today.

Moreover, the Democrats will need to do a far better job in understanding and responding to the problems that the Governor’s dual role as DNC Chair has raised for them.  Bob McDonnell is simply pounding them by linking Kaine and Deeds to every unpopular national Democratic initiative.

And, finally, maybe the Democrats will recognize that it is not very gubernatorial to offer a transportation “plan” without details  because you do not want step on the prerogatives of the legislature.

It’s early. Very early.

It’s why we have wake up calls.

Historically, polls have dramatically shifted in Governor’s races.

But it seems to me that the Deeds-Wagner-Shannon need an aggressive Virginia First campaign that’s focused on what really matters to people, that actually excites Democrats and appeals to independents.

If these numbers don’t wake them from their lethargy, who knows what will.

First of all, why are you double spacing your paragraphs (?) like that. Second, Virginia is fairing much better than the rest of the nation during the current economic crisis BECAUSE of our strong leadership from our Governor. Nice try, though.

  3. I agree with Terry. Seems to me having one of the best managed states, one of the most favorable for business, and far lower unemployment than the national average is a legacy worth running on. What did we get from the Gilmore administration? Bogus promises on auto tax relief that he couldn’t keep? I’ll take a Warner-Kaine legacy any day.

  4. Carl and Terry fail to realize that Deeds already has them, but that that doesn’t mean that he can coast to election.

  5. Brian, I never meant to imply that any candidate can coast into office. I am very frustrated by the slow pace of the various campaigns, We have a cadre in the field eager to get to work they just await the leadership.

Complacency is a luxury we simply can not afford.

  6. Carl, my bad for assuming too much.

Deeds has gotten off the mark slowly. He’s goes to need to close the way he did in the primary. I would have expected him to get going much more quickly.
