There are at least two kinds of theses: the objective, academic thesis (not that all are objective) and the committed thesis, of which Marx is a cardinal exemplar. I can’t remember an occasion when a politician’s thesis was as much in the news as Bob McDonnell’s has been recently but it was notable for its strong views on contemporarry questions. Whether it should be resurrected now is a question that divides along partisan lines.
