Janet Howell represents me in the state senate. I consider her to be one of the least effective politicians in Northern Virginia (which has plenty of ineffective politicians). She has systematically ignored the real issues of her constitiuents while mindlessly championing causes which are irrelevent to the voter - taxpayers in the 32nd senate district. Her twin philosophies of “evade and avoid” on the issues and “hide in plain sight” on her positions make her unfit to represent anybody.
Unfortunately, Bob McDonnell has opend a gigantic can of worms with his politically inept decision to let members of his cabinet maintain board positions with for-profit companies. People like Janet Howell are afforded a riskless chance to grab headlines. She is right (for once) on this issue. The board positions will create conflicts of interest. They will cause the public to mistrust government even more than it already does. Worst of all, it gives people like Janet Howell an opportunity to continue to ignore the real issues facing her constituents while (correctly) complaining about a mind numbingly dumb move on the part of Bob McDonnell. And it’s just this kind of sideshow that keeps people like Janet Howell in office despite 18 years of constituent dis-service.
