The Belmont resident is succinct on noise levels in residential areas after dark: “We need to sleep as well as they need to play.” People in restaurants and clubs are exhilarated by high-decibel sound, but those in homes are annoyed or rendered distraught by it. These competing claims usually lead to an uneasy accommodation rather than to a perfect solution.
