  1. Tom Davis is to a significant extent what is called a liberal Republican, used to the ways of the “sophisticated” East, an endangered species now. Karl Rove is a hard-charging insurrectionary Republican, the architect of George W.’s triumphs, whose roots lie in Texas. The friction between them was inevitable.
