Regarding U Va’s professors of practice. The relation between academia and the “real world” has a long and conflicted history. Some think an excessive emphasis on the ivory tower leads people to being out of touch, others that universities should keep the real world at arm’s length in order to critique it disinterestedly. U Va will probably negotiate this new bridge with skill.
