I found Anita Kumar’s long Washington Post article on liquor in Virginia particularly interesting. There seems to be a sharp line between those who partake and those who definitely don’t. Kumar evokes the social atmosphere of places, so that for me Galax, say, is now more than a place on a map. The state’s diverse attitudes in this matter may contribute to its being politically purple at the moment.
